Understand your hardship
Review outstanding dues, income changes and a payment amount you can realistically afford.

When personal loan EMIs become difficult, understand your repayment options, the settlement process and the costs before making a decision.
Settlement depends on lender approval and can affect future access to credit. No settlement amount, timeline or credit-score outcome is guaranteed.
Personal loan settlement is a lender-approved arrangement to resolve a loan for an agreed amount that may be less than the total dues. It is different from repaying the loan in full.
The lender evaluates the request under its own policies. RBI’s compromise-settlement framework sets requirements for regulated lenders; it does not give every borrower an automatic right to a reduced payment. [1]
SOL helps you organize your situation and understand lender discussions. Confirm the agreed service scope and fees before enrollment.

Organize the information needed to explain your circumstances and discuss available options.

Understand the offer amount, conditions, deadlines and payment instructions before accepting.

An overdue account or financial hardship is a reason to seek an assessment, not proof that a lender will accept settlement.
If you can repay in full or manage a revised arrangement, ask the lender about those routes before choosing settlement. Compare total cost, affordability and credit-reporting consequences.
Do not deliberately stop EMIs to seek a discount. Missed payments can increase dues and credit risk.
Pay all contractual dues, or ask for an early-repayment quote if affordable. Confirm interest, applicable charges and the lender’s completion documents.
Ask whether a changed tenure, installment or other hardship arrangement is available. Approval, costs and credit-reporting treatment depend on the lender and the arrangement.
If full repayment is not feasible, the lender may consider a compromise. Review the written conditions and credit consequences before committing. [1]
Five stages, with approval staying with your lender. On mobile, swipe through the steps or use the arrows.
Share lender names, outstanding dues and hardship details. Compare alternatives.
If enrolling, review SOL’s agreement, fees and responsibilities first.
Work out a realistic budget. Keep control of your money while the request is considered.
The lender may approve, change or decline the proposal. Verify written terms.
Use the authorized lender route. Keep receipts and obtain completion documents.
There is no universal settlement percentage or completion time. SOL’s five-month Basic Plan is a service-fee period, not a lender settlement deadline.
A “settled” entry can affect future borrowing. It does not mean the same thing as a fully repaid, “closed” loan. [2]
The lender accepts a reduced amount and may report the account as settled. Future lenders can view this as a credit risk.
CIBIL distinguishes full repayment from settlement. A closure document does not, by itself, change an accurate settlement entry.
Check your report after the lender updates it. Raise inaccuracies with the lender and credit bureau. No service can guarantee deletion of accurate history or a particular score.
Understand SOL’s charges separately from the amount you pay your lender.
Premium Service fees may differ. Confirm partial-lakh billing, scope and applicable taxes in your agreement. Lender settlement payments use authorized lender routes; SOL fees are separate.
Whole-lakh amounts only. GST extra. This estimates service fees, not a lender offer or savings.
Explore the separate loan calculator ↗A verbal offer is not enough. Ask for official written terms and verify them with the lender before paying. [3]
Never pay an unverified personal account or share banking passwords or OTPs with SOL.

Have a recent loan statement, a summary of income and essential expenses, and relevant hardship records ready. Your lender may request identity or other documents through its official channels.
Ask what to prepare for your loan ↗RBI directs covered lenders and their recovery agents not to intimidate or harass borrowers. Its circular also prohibits recovery calls before 8 AM and after 7 PM for overdue loans. [4]
This does not cancel the debt or guarantee that recovery communication will stop.
Save relevant messages, dates and complaint references. Contact the lender’s grievance channel for recovery concerns. If you receive a legal notice, seek advice from a qualified professional; settlement discussions do not suspend legal deadlines.
Discuss a communication concern ↗
SOL provides borrower support, helping you organize the facts before discussing your personal loan. Your lender decides settlement approval, terms and credit reporting.
Start with the facts, then discuss how they apply to your account.
Read more borrower guides ↗Yes, you can ask the lender directly about hardship options or settlement. Using a support service is optional and does not ensure approval. [1]
No universal percentage applies. Any concession depends on the lender’s policy and account assessment. A calculator estimate is not an approved offer. [1]
There is no guaranteed timeline. Documents, lender review, negotiations and payment readiness affect progress. Ask for updates rather than relying on a promised completion date.
No immediate improvement is guaranteed. A settled entry can affect borrowing eligibility; it is distinct from full repayment. [2]
Do not assume it can. Discuss any further repayment and reporting with the lender. Disputes address inaccurate information, not guaranteed erasure of an accurate history. [2]
No. SOL service fees are separate. The Basic Plan is ₹1,000 + GST sign-up, plus ₹1,000 + GST per ₹1 lakh outstanding each month for five months.
Do not assume it does. Keep communicating through official channels and respond to notices on time. RBI’s recovery-agent rules address conduct, not cancellation of repayment obligations. [4]
Use the same questions for every provider. Clear fees, realistic expectations and verified payment routes help you make a better decision.
| What to compare | Settlement On Loan What this page explains | Other agency What to verify |
